Since 1972, Mercy Centre has been a home, a school, and a community for children in Klong Toei, one of Bangkok’s most underserved neighbourhoods. What started as a response to urgent need has grown into one of Thailand’s most established child welfare organisations, supporting hundreds of children and families each year.

How They Feel…
The children who come to Mercy Centre carry stories that no child should have to carry. Many have grown up in environments shaped by poverty, addiction, and instability, situations that were never of their making and never their fault. Mercy Centre exists because every one of those children deserves a different story from here
Abused Physically, Emotionally, Sexually and Mentally
Many of our kids have suffered from a range of abuses from people who were meant to look after them.
Experiences of Crime, Imprisonment & Abandonment
Some children in orphanages in Thailand have been made to commit crime, been imprisoned and confined against their wishes and abandoned on the streets to fend for themselves.
Experiences of Drug Taking & The Drug Industry
Some children in orphanages in Thailand have witnessed parents and family members taking drugs. Some have even been forced to deliver drugs either to pay off debts or to generate money for family members.
Physical Health Issues
Some of our children are HIV-positive and others have other significant health problems from malnourishment and neglect.
Mental Health Problems
The mental problems are the most difficult to see but many children in orphanages in Thailand have bad dreams and flashbacks. When they arrive, some cannot talk or are scared of people.
Disabilities
Some children in orphanages in Thailand have disabilities, scars from ill treatment and learning difficulties due to a lack of engagement at early ages.

Child Development Program
Help our children learn life skills, technical skills and help them to get to university or vocational college. Stop the cycle of poverty and crime.

What care do we provide?
Apart from three meals a day and a bed, our children are provided with a range of care which would not be possible without donors like you.
Child B: A Childhood Sold on the Street
Current Age: 16 | Grade: 9
A Childhood Cut Short
Child B didn’t get much time to just be a kid. While his father struggled with addiction and his mother was hospitalized, he ended up on the streets filling the gap, walking miles in the heat selling lottery tickets by day, selling bread to strangers at night. Every cent went straight to medical bills. School was not an option.
He was a child carrying an adult’s burden, and he carried it alone for years.
Starting Over
Now 16 and in Grade 9, he is working twice as hard to catch up on the years he missed, and he is doing it without complaint. At Mercy Home, he discovered something that the streets never offered: stability, people who are in his corner, and time to breathe.
He spends some of that time in the Mercy Home garden. For someone who grew up navigating chaos, it is the first place that has felt genuinely peaceful.
What Drives Him
Despite everything he went through, his goal has not changed: he wants to provide for his parents. The difference now is that he intends to do it through a career he has chosen, not through survival labor imposed on him as a child.
His past was not his choice. His future still can be.
