Yaosang with her children - Oat and Ahm

Yaosang first came to Mercy Centre after she was abandoned, penniless, and weak with AIDS. For almost a year, Yaosang and her two children, Oat and Ahm, lived with us as a family within our own family at Mercy Centre. When she eventually gained strength, we gave her a loan to rent a nearby shack and asked her to join with us as part of our HIV/AIDS homecare team. For the past four years, she has been an integral member of our homecare program, visiting the poorest people living with HIV throughout Bangkok's slum communities. Her children, Oat and Ahm, born one year apart but almost inseparable, go to school at our preschool and hang out with our kids, plotting adventures in the spirit of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.
