June 11. '09 - Three incredible musicians serenaded our children last night with some of the most gorgeous Irish music known to man. Mick Maloney - guitarist, banjo, and mandolin player, folklorist, recipient of the National Heritage Award of the National Endowment of the Arts, New York University Professor, and dear, dear friend of our Mercy Centre - brought along two extraordinarily gifted musicians, Michelle Mulcahy (on harp and concertina) and Liz Hanley (violin and vocals) for an hour of ballads, jigs, and traditional Irish folk songs. Never having heard a harp up close, our children were mesmerized by the beauty of Michelle's music. As a huge concert bonus, Liz laid down her violin and taught our children how to dance "The Mackeraina." Later that evening as the children drifted off to sleep, Mick, Michelle, and Liz returned to play soft lullabies.
