Fire in 70 Rai - Aug. 19, '09

A lightening storm on Wednesday caused a fire in our 70 Rai neighborhood about 200 yards from our Mercy Centre. Five homes were destroyed in minutes, many more were damaged, and twenty-five adults and children were left homeless. We worked with the victims, their neighbors, landlords, and authorities from the moment the fire was put out to ensure those left homeless were cared for and sheltered. Our cooks made giant pots of rice porridge for everyone, and our teachers made sure the school children left homeless could continue their studies, and helped in their evening's homework.
