Int'l Social Work Day at Mercy - Oct. '09

On International Social Work Day, we celebrated together with hundreds of Moms and Babies at our Mercy Centre. Over 200 families attended - moms, dads, grandmoms, and, most of all, babies - representing 8 neighborhood slum communities. Our Mercy Social Work Teams led celebrants in choruses of every Thai child's first songs, highlighted by "Elephant! Elephant Elephant" Ms. Usanee and our social workers spoke to the moms heart to heart about their babies' nutritional needs; and Fr. Joe implored each family to come to Mercy Centre in times of need and in every instance when a child's life is in danger. All families received gifts for their children, including soaps, powdered milk and hygiene products. Granny Sing served free coffee at the entrance to Mercy Centre - our "front porch."
